Much Ado About Nothing

The International Theater Festival MESS | Theater Play

“Much Ado About Nothing" will be played with the conventions and clichés of spectacularity, with ways to seduce, impress, deceive and provoke the public.

Creators tryed to develop a work which is completely empty of content, that is pure form, only the wrapping, to illustrate and emphasize this creative model, and also because we feel that this absence will eventually generate a content, a speech, or a reflection on this same relationship, that can be more interesting and deeper than if they tried to stage all the discourse.

Because of this they have chosen the title of one of William Shakespeare’s plays to name the project, the double meaning classic and main concept to develop. With this idea of simultaneousness and sensationalism they have built a device which serves as a performance space, script and actor.

There are sculptures on an old piece of furniture, made by hundreds of figures, which are highlighted with different means for generating the stage movement and dramaturgy, in a particular game of shadows with many film, comic and arts connotations. Hidden in the drawers of the furniture there are also some images that complement the sequences talking about love, sex, power, violence, death, like a portrait of the theater history.
