The fate of derelict industrial towns seems to be universal - neglected vast spaces that, for a want of authorities' imagination, remain unused and without a new purpose; high unemployment rates and disorientation of identity.

In 1892, outdated, written-off machines belonging to some Austrian factories were brought to a small town in Central Bosnia and the Eisen und Stahlgewerkschaft Zenica was founded. What was later to become known as Željezara Zenica (Zenica Ironworks) became the most significant symbol of industry in former Yugoslavia.

The play My Factory is based on a book by Selvedin Avdić, an intimate monograph of the town and its ironworks, depicting their relationship that was so special that at one point the citizens of Zenica reffered to their Factory as "Mother". However, in the decade that saw its biggest production boost (and simultaneously pollution) they vehemently hated it. This play gives us a historic overview of Zenica through a story of its origins.
