The exhibit, Otvoreni Depot, at the Historical Museum of BiH, is inspired by the first permanent exhibit of the BiH Museum of the Revolution from 1966, which was dismantled in the early 1990s and placed in the museum’s depot.

Having been out of sight for nearly 30 years, the items were again put on display in 2016.

There are weapons and military equipment from WWII, flags and seals used by military and political authorities, medals and badges, items used in prison camps, items that belonged to major figures of WWII….

The museum was founded in 1945 as the Museum of the People’s Liberation, with the aim of honoring the memory of those who had fought for freedom during WWII. From 1949 to 1993 it was called the Museum of the People’s Revolution or the BiH Museum of the Revolution.

The collection was first housed in Vijećnica and then moved to its new facility in Marijin Dvor in 1966. In 1993 the name was changed to the Historical Museum of BiH and now covers the country’s entire history.
