Brodac Gallery of Contemporary Art now opened in former prison

A new exhibition space, the Brodac Gallery of Contemporary Art, was opened in Sarajevo with the symbolic exhibit, “Reconstruction at Gallery Brodac”. The gallery is located near Sarajevo Vijećnica on 4 Brodac Street in the building that once served as Beledija Prison.

Mak Hubjer, an artist from Sarajevo, launched the initiative to open the Brodac Gallery with the aim of providing a new place for the circulation of art that can also serve as a venue where younger artists can meet and socialize. The idea is to create a new center for modern art that will place more of an emphasis on the actual process involved in creating a work of art, rather than simply the finished piece.

The exhibit presents the works of seven established artists from BiH and Europe: Nela Hasanbegović, Alma Suljević, Daniel Premec, Jusuf Hadžifejzović, Louis James, Bojan Stojčić, Mak Hubjer and Pierre Courtin.

As Brodac Gallery will be working in conjunction with Duplex Gallery, the exhibit will be on display until May 20, 2016.
