Exhibit – Sarajevo Birvaktile

Recent joint efforts by the Museum of Sarajevo and the Sarajevo City Administration have resulted in the installation of an exhibit entitled, Sarajevo Birvaktile, which shows works by well known painters (from the end of the 19th century and first half of the 20th century) that feature motifs of old Sarajevo.

Sarajevo Birvaktile is a unique opportunity for those who would like to “have a peek” at the city’s history by seeing forgotten areas of Sarajevo, as well as old handicrafts and birvaktile Sarajevans. The word, birvaktile, is Turkish for “once a long time ago” or “from a bygone time”.

Painters, like Gabrijel Jurkić, Ismet Mujezinović, Petar Tiješić, Danijel Kabiljo, Roman Petrović, Đoko Mazalić…, bring Sarajevo to life as it was during the period stretching from the arrival of the Austro-Hungarians all the way up to the beginning of the Second World War.

The exhibit will be on display every day from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until May 5.
