Fifth Holiday Market now open

The Coca-Cola Sarajevo Holiday Market has officially opened with the lighting of the central Christmas tree, which is richly decorated and reaches a height of approximately 20 meters. The lighting of the central tree is always done by the head of the City Administration and the tradition has been honored again this year by having the Mayor of Sarajevo, Ivo Komšić, and the Mayor of Zagreb, Milan Bandić, pull the switch.

Before and after the tree was lit there was a performance by Kraljevi Ulica, a band from Zagreb, while Amina Hamzić and the group, Open Mind, performed in the Pan Winter Pub right after the Market was officially opened.

Sarajevo Holiday Market (SHM) is a place with many attractions that draw visitors of all generations. The Fifth Annual SHM will run to  January 14, 2016 at Trg Oslobođenja - Alija Izetbegović and in front of BBI Center.

Since it resonates with a real holiday atmosphere, the Market has already become a traditional site that Sarajevans and visitors gladly visit over the 37 days that it is held. With more than 30 small cabins and stands, the Market provides a daily offering of souvenirs and products crafted by artisans, all of which come with a certificate of Original Sarajevo Quality, as well as other handicrafts, books, toys, cosmetics, food and drinks.

One again, the Children’s Park is available to youngsters at the central location – Trg Oslobođenja-Alija Izetbegović – and includes the Argeta Children’s Pavilion, Mini Luna Park and Coca-Cola Santa House.

Visitors can enjoy daily cultural events at the PAN Winter Pub, with concerts, song-filled evenings, stand-up comedy, promotions and food tastings.

The Market Annex, which is located at the square in front of BBI Center, is preparing an open-air venue with the BH Telecom ULTRA Stage, and there will also be cabins with items for sale.

Just as during the previous four years, the Sarajevo Holiday Market will make the holiday period in Sarajevo more attractive and will mark the Catholic Christmas and New Year and the Orthodox Christmas and New Year by offering an assortment of local products. The Market was started with the wish of wanting to bring a full winter experience back to Olympic Sarajevo and has been patterned after Christmas markets that can be found in almost every city in Western Europe.
