The Baby Lion Called Piolina

At the beginning of September a baby lion was born at “Pionirska Dolina”, Sarajevo’s zoo. As the first lion cub to be born in Sarajevo, news of the arrival spread through town and generated true delight among Sarajevans.

Right after the little cub was born, Radio Antena Sarajevo, the most-listened-to radio station in town, in cooperation with the zoo, organized the action – “What’s your name, lion?” – which had the goal of choosing a name for Pionirska Dolina’s youngest resident.

The name, Piolina, was finally chosen from among the more than 700 suggestions that came in, and was suggested by 29-year-old Edin Bešlić, who says that the name is a combination of the words “Pionirska Dolina”.

It was in this way that Edin Bešlić became the proud “godfather” of the little lion, who has grown considerably over the past two months and who has been spending the first two months of her life in a special area, receiving constant care from her mother.

You can visit Pionirska Dolina Zoo every day from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
