The Nostalgia Tram

Sarajevo is now that much richer for its newest tourist attraction.

2014/08/14

A tram called Nostalgia will be making its way along the city’s tram tracks and is patterned after the first electric tram car used in 1895 in Sarajevo, where the very first of such trams made its debut.

With 16 seats and room for 10 standing places, the Nostalgia tram is suitable for use in modern-day Sarajevo and will run every day until September 9 on the Baščaršija-Željeznička Stanica (railway station) line from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The cost of tickets is 1.60 KM.

The tram will be driven by Salih Mašnić, long-time employee of the city transport company, GRAS, who will be wearing traditional Bosnian attire.

Those who take a ride on Nostalgia will have a chance to see some old photographs of Sarajevo, Prague and Vienna displayed inside the tram, as well as listen to touristic audio recordings in Bosnian and English.

This project has been realized in conjunction with other activities that have been organized in marking 100 years since the Sarajevo Assassination.
