The first retrospective exhibition of works by Mersad Berber (1940-2012), one of BiH's most prominent artists from the second half of the 20th century, will be on display at Vijećnica (July 6-September 6).
The exhibit has been realized by the Mersad Berber Foundation and will present all of his major pieces, from those done during his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, sculptures from Ljubljana, prints done in honor of Velázquez and the Skender-Vakuf series, to works depicting Srebrenica, the flora of Dubrovnik and the self-portraits, his final artistic phase.
The overriding feature of nearly all of the works by this great artist was the great love he had for his homeland – BiH.
After the tragic 1990s, Berber tried to project onto the canvas the demise of centuries of multiculturalism in the Balkans and it was through this creative phase that he reached his artistic peak.
Berber was the recipient of some 50 awards, he held exhibits in all of the world’s major cities and top experts rank him among the world’s greatest post-classicists.
