Multiple Oscar winner Alejandro González Iñárritu to attend 25th Annual SFF

Mexican director, producer and screenplay writer González Iñárritu, one of today's most successful and valued film-makers, will receive this year's honorary Heart of Sarajevo Award at the 25th Annual Sarajevo Film Festival, an award that recognizes exceptional contributions to the art of film.

árritu won four Oscars for his film Birdman (2015) – Best Director, Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Cinematography) – and a year later he won an Oscar for Best Director for his film The Revenant.

This famous director will hold a masterclass in Sarajevo, and viewers will be able to follow along during a special screening of Birdman.

The Heart of Sarajevo will also be awarded to Polish director Paweł Pawlikowski, putting these two film greats among the constellation of famous international names who have received this prize, including: Robert de Niro, Angelina Jolie, Lars von Trier, Mike Leigh, Steve Buscemi, Béla Tarr, Benicio del Toro, John Cleese, Oliver Stone....

The official SFF Award, the Heart of Sarajevo, was designed by French fashion designer Agnès Andrée Marguerite Troublé (Agnès B.) and has been awarded since 2004.

This year's SFF, which will run from August 16 to 23, will see 53 films in competition, with Swedish director and producer Ruben Östlund serving as president of the jury. Östlund won the Golden Palm at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival for his film The Square.

One of the members of this year's jury is Israeli director Nadav Lapid, recipient of this year's Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for his film Synonyms.
