Tunnel of Hope Museum Expands Content

The Tunnel of Hope, one of Sarajevo’s most visited museums, has expanded its content by adding new items and objects from the time of the war, plus it now offers a guide for individuals who are blind or visually impaired and provides audio guides in three languages (Bosnian, English and Turkish) for visitors.

This memorial complex made use of scientific research in helping to expand its content by enlarging its collection of objects, archival documents and authentic video material made during the time of the Siege of Sarajevo and filmed on location in the D-B Tunnel.

The new displays have a conceptual framework and focus on certain themes. They follow a chronological story, from the Siege of Sarajevo, survival during the blockade and the use of the Sarajevo Airport runway as the only way in or out of the city, to the planning that was involved in building the tunnel and actually constructing it, all the way to its use and importance during the war.
