In Baščaršija, the oldest part of town, almost every corner comes alive, bustling with merchants, customers and those who are out enjoying a walk, just like it used to be during its “golden age”.
This June, Sarajevo will mark 100 years since the Sarajevo Assassination, an event which left an indelible mark on the history of the world and this commemoration will also involve various cultural, sporting, scientific and entertainment events.
The Museum of Sarajevo 1878-1918 has a permanent exhibit, dedicated to the period of Austro-Hungarian rule in Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which tells the story of the Sarajevo Assassination. The Museum is housed in the building right where the young Gavrilo Princip was standing when he assassinated the Austro-Hungarian Heir Apparent, Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie.
