Academician Mehmed Zaimović (Tuzla, 1938) has been a notable presence on the art scene in Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad for many years.

From his guest appearance at the Artists’ Society of BiH’s exhibition in Split back in 1961 and his first solo exhibition in the Lik Salon in Sarajevo in 1964, through his contribution to major exhibitions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Yugoslavia (the Sarajevo Salon, the Triennial of the Fine Arts in Belgrade, the Exhibition of Yugoslav Graphics in Zagreb, the International Exhibition of Original Drawings in Rijeka, the Banja Luka Autumn Salon and more) to taking part in highlyregarded international art events and representations of Yugoslav art abroad, he was an important member of the scene.

Though the artists of this generation have been gradually retiring from the scene over the past decade or so, the modern art of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been blessed, in the great opus of Mehmed Zaimović, his many awards and accolades, the wide range of his artistic interests, and his highly personal and ever-attentive interest in research, with an outstanding human and artistic adventure.
