Ever since its founding, the National Museum of BiH has been systematically collecting, processing and archiving photographs, negatives and film material, thereby serving as an indispensible base and starting point for those conducting researching.

The most significant portion of this collection of rare items is comprised of 6,000 glass negatives dating from the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century.

The largest and most important part of the collection includes around 5,000 negatives by František Topič, one of the most influential pioneers of photography in BiH who spent most of his working life at the National Museum of BiH, first as an archival attendant and later as a librarian, secretary and photographer.

The monograph is a selection of the most interesting photographs taken by Topič, most of which have not been previously published elsewhere. This work also offers a comprehensive look at the author’s creative work, which is considered an excellent resource for researching the intimate history and geography of BiH society in the wake of the First World War.

Exhibit opening is scheduled for November 2nd.
