Historical Museum organizes cleaning of the Vraca Memorial Park
Event
Aug 05 - Aug 06 / 12:00
Where:
Historical Museum of BiH invites volunteers to public action for cleaning Vraca Memorial Park, at August 5th to 7th.
Vraca Memorial Park is located in what was once an Austro-Hungarian fortification built at the end of the 19th century in Vraca, a neighborhood on the northern slopes of Trebević. This park has great cultural, historical, artistic, architectural and scenic qualities.
During the occupation of Sarajevo during WWII, the Vraca fort was turned into a prison camp and execution site.
The fortress was abandoned for some time after the Second World War. However, as Vraca soon became a synonym for resistance and the struggle against fascism by ordinary citizens, it was decided that a memorial park should be made and the fortress should be turned into a museum.
The park was made a National Monument in 2005 by the Committee for the Preservation of National Monuments in BiH and, as such, is protected by the state.
