The collection at the National Museum of BiH has been embellished by a new artifact – a Stone for Peace from Hiroshima.

This stone was part of a road in Hiroshima when the city was devastated by an atomic bomb on August 6, 1945 during World War II.

Forty years later, 10,000 residents of Hiroshima carved images on several hundred pieces of stone with the aim of sending a message of how important it is to preserve peace in the world. Every stone is engraved with an image of Kannon, the God of Mercy.

The Stone for Peace was offered as a gift from Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina and will remain in the National Museum's permanent collection.
