No single group of vertebrates is so seemingly diverse, yet so genetically connected as the ungulates.
The five orders that the group comprises – dugongs and manatees (Sirenia), hyraxes (Hyracoidea), elephants (Proboscidea), odd-toed ungulates (Perissodactyla), and even-toed ungulates (Artiodactyla) – inhabit all types of habitats, and their diversity reflects their adaptation for survival in a wide range of environmental conditions.
The exhibition is made up of two parts: First, a general introduction describes the main characteristics of the group and its historical development, which goes all the way back to the beginning of the Tertiary (65–60 million years ago). The second part of the exhibition contains exhibits of specific species – animals stuffed whole, skeletons, and mounted body parts.
