Welcome

The International Theater Festival MESS | Theater Play

02 Dec (See full schedule)
  1. |

“Welcome” was created with a view to examine our intimate attitude towards the destinies of people we refer to as refugees. The current circumstances in which we talk about refugees has significantly changed as opposed to those back in 2015.

People’s destinies are no longer the topic of discussion, their lives have become an instrument of a global policy used to promote particular political interests. We hear about ratios, numbers, meters of barbed wire dividing the fortunate ones from those who are less fortunate. Xenophobia, racism, fascism are spreading across Europe.

“Welcome” uses water as its means of expression. The water of the Olympic swimming pool thus becomes a projection screen – it turns into the Mediterranean, the Greek coast, the Turkish coast, a corn field, a border; it becomes a European metropolis, a railway, our courtyard or it turns into cities such as Paris, Berlin, Hamburg, Rome, Istanbul, Athens, Aleppo and Sarajevo.
