Blagaj is one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in Herzegovina, home to the impressive medieval fortress of Stjepan-grad and the Velagić House complex, one of the largest and best-preserved examples of traditional Ottoman residential architecture.

The source of the Buna River is one of the strongest karst springs in Europe and the region’s largest source of drinking water. It emerges from a cave beneath a 200-meter-high cliff, creating dazzling turquoise shades. About 60,000 liters of water gush out every second, and the river flows nine kilometers west before joining the Neretva near the village of Buna.

Next to the spring stands the breathtaking Blagaj Tekke, appearing to float between rock and water. Built in the 16th century, during the rise of Sufi spiritual movements across the Ottoman Empire, it remains one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most unique and serene sites.

Blagaj also offers a delicious culinary experience. Riverside restaurants serve fresh trout prepared the traditional Herzegovinian way, with lemon, garlic, and homemade bread.
