You’ll have to travel 75 kilometers southeast of Sarajevo, along the road to Foča that passes through Pale and Prača, in order to reach the small town of Ustikolina. It’s from here that you can take a raft on the Drina River all the way to Goražde.
Rafting on the Drina has a long tradition and it came about out of the need to transport timber from the forests downstream to where it was processed.
The rafts are unusual “vessels” made from wooden logs, which have gradually become a tourist attraction in themselves because there is a tangible peace all along the river, as well as a strong current in certain places.
The entire length of the rafting route is 22 km and the journey takes anywhere from four to six hours. The rafts are about 13 meters long and can accommodate between 10 and 12 people.
The rafts often come with a table and benches and even a grill for a fully gourmet experience on the water.
