Polish trumpeter, composer and improviser Tomasz Stanko will be performing with an international ensemble on 19th Jazz Fest Sarajevo. Known for free jazz, in communist Poland, he was impressed by the co-relation off jazz and message of freedom.

Tomasz Stanko was born in 1942. His first encounters with jazz were through Voice of America radio programs and tours initiated by the U.S. State Department.

Stanko as a band leader has released 37 albums and composed music for numerous films and theatrical productions.

He was honored with several prestigious awards for his work. The New Yorker called him one of the world’s most original and inventive jazz trumpeters.

His trumpet’s one and only sound may be heard at the most prestigious venues throughout the world and on records produced and released by renowned, Munich-based ECM Records.
