Bjelašnica

Although best known as a winter ski resort, Bjelašnica Mountain is a great summer escape from Sarajevo’s heat. Located just 35 km from the city, it’s about a 40-minute drive away.

At Babin Do, the main resort area, visitors can rent sports courts, bicycles, and quads, or enjoy a scenic ride on the cable car. Nearby Javorov Do offers several ziplines of different lengths, a motor skills park for children, and picnic areas with barbecue rentals.

A visit to the nearby mountain villages, especially Umoljani and Lukomir, is also highly recommended.
The surroundings of Umoljani are ideal for hiking and mountain biking. At the village entrance, you’ll find a mosque with an unusual tin minaret, a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Sedrenik spring features old watermills, while the nearby area of Dolovi holds a medieval necropolis and the remains of ancient structures.

Umoljani serves as a starting point for several hiking trails, including routes to the Rakitnica Canyon, Studeni Potok stream, and the village of Lukomir.

Lukomir, perched at 1,469 meters above sea level, is the highest inhabited village in the country. Its dramatic landscapes, traditional stone houses, and home-cooked meals prepared from local recipes leave a lasting impression. Due to the harsh climate, the village is populated only from April to October.
