July

While the heat of July can be oppressive, Sarajevans find relief up on the nearby mountains and at various picnic spots, where temperatures are pleasant, thanks to the high elevation, and there is the deep shade of the forests and a refreshing coolness from rivers and streams.

It’s also relaxing to enjoy a stroll or bicycle ride along Velika Aleja in Ilidža, which leads to the fascinating nature park, Vrelo Bosne (the source of the Bosna River).

During July, various events are traditionaly held around town during the Baščaršija Nights Festival, which every year offers top performances from the world of opera, ballet and theater, as well as concerts, literary evenings, children’s programs, film screenings…

This month also marks the anniversary of the Srebrenica tragedy, so be sure to pay a visit to the memorial museum, Gallery 11/07/95, which preserves the memory of events that unfolded in july 1995.

In addition to its permanent exhibit, the Gallery also organizes and host exhibits. Currently on display is "Greetings from Sarajevo 1993", which features postcards and posters from war-torn Sarajevo by the design team Trio.
