Type: The Bridges of Sarajevo
There is a bridge on Azize Šaćirbegović Street that spans the Miljacka River and joins the Sarajevo neighborhoods, Hrasno and Dolac Malta. This bridge is a very important Sarajevo thoroughfare because it is also connected to the Sarajevo bypass, known as “Tranzit”.
This bridge was built in 1976 and 1977, at a time when Sarajevo was really developing after WWII. The design institute, Traser, was in charge of documenting the project, and it was built by the famous Sarajevo construction company, Put.
As it was severely damaged during the last war, Malta Bridge (the name commonly used by Sarajevans) underwent a thorough renovation in 2011.
Reconstruction was overseen by Euro-Asfalt and it was then that the bridge got its new sidewalk sections and railings.
