The construction of this monumental structure was commissioned long ago (in 1551) by Rustem Pasha Opuković, Grand Vizier to Suleiman the Magnificent, to serve as a place where silk from Bursa could be sold.
Since 2004, it has been home to the fifth annex of the Museum of Sarajevo, housing artifacts from pre-history, antiquity, the Middle Ages, the Ottoman period and the Austro-Hungarian period.
