The trees will use solar energy to provide lighting for the surrounding area, serve as solar charge points for cell phones, tablets..., and be a free Wi-Fi hotspot in the core of the old town.
The installations are part of the “First Solar Tree in Stari Grad Municipality,” which highlights the importance of using renewable sources of energy.
By the end of the month, a free app will be made available to all Android smartphone and tablet users.
The aim of the app (a collection of animated stickers with messages written in BCS and English) is to make young people more aware of environmental problems and the importance of using renewable sources of energy.
