This marks BiH's first two entries in the register, which was established in 1997 with the aim of protecting the world's important documentary heritage (documents, manuscripts and items from library, museum and archival collections). A total of 348 items have been included in the register to date.

The room at the National Museum of BiH which houses the Sarajevo Haggadah is currently undergoing reconstruction, but once the project is completed at the end of November, this item will be put on display as the museum’s centerpiece.

The manuscript collection belonging to the Gazi Husrev Bey Library contains more than 10,000 manuscripts in Arabic, Turkish, Farsi and Bosnian and, since one manuscript may contain multiple works, the collection actually consists of close to 20,000 titles.
