During the official closing ceremony for the 12th Winter European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in the town of Schruns (in the Montafon region, on the border between Austria and Liechtenstein), which hosted the EYOF 2015, the mayors took the flag as hosts of the upcoming 13th EYOF.
Therefore, after 31 long years since the XIV Winter Olympic Games were held, the Olympic flag will, once again, be making its way to the capital city of BiH.
More than 1,500 athletes from 49 European countries are expected to participate in the next EYOF, which is set to take place in Sarajevo and East Sarajevo in February 2017.
In order to prepare for this major sporting event, much work will be done in order to improve the infrastructure on the mountains around Sarajevo, making them even more attractive destinations for those who love winter sports.
The Olympic Flag Returns to Sarajevo
The Mayors of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo, Ivo Komšić and Nenad Samardžija, have brought the Olympic flag back to Sarajevo, after a 31-year hiatus!
