It is believed that the White Fortress, which overlooks the eastern entrance to the Sarajevo Valley, takes its name from the white rocks that were used in its construction.
Archeological research indicates that the oldest parts of the fortress were built during the Middle Ages, at the end of the 14th or beginning of the 15th century, and that other sections were added during the Ottoman period and then later during the Austro-Hungarian period.
The White Fortress is a National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina and, given the incredible view, it is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Sarajevo.
You may enter the fortified structure every day from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., for a flat rate of 5KM.
