After being driven from Spain in 1492 and from Portugal in 1496, the Sephardic Jews were scattered all over the world. Some came to BiH, where their descendants live to this day. The year 1565 is also the official date for when Jews arrived in Sarajevo, where they would later found their municipality.
In order to become better acquainted with the history of Jews in BiH, as well as with the trades they were involved in and the influential members of their community, we recommend that you pay a visit to the Jewish Museum, Jewish Municipality, Aškenazi Synagogue, Jewish Cemetery, the Novi Hram Gallery and the National Museum, which is where the original Sarajevo Haggadah is kept.
