Zec is an academic painter and graphic artist and, in the 1970s, he became the main representative of the art movement that critics have referred to as Poetic Realism.
His works hang in major galleries and museums throughout Europe and around the world and he has been the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the April 6th Award given by the City of Sarajevo.
Safet Zec founded his atelier in Sarajevo in 1987 and it has always been envisioned as an open workshop and gallery space, as well as a place for artistic, literary and musical gatherings.
Having been badly damaged during the war, Atelje re-opened in 2003 and its permanent exhibit now serves as an opportunity for visitors to learn about Safet Zec’s vast repertoire by viewing pieces from different periods in his career.
In addition to exhibits and promotional activities, Atelje – Zec Collection also carries out projects related to the protection of artwork.
