  • Fojnica is located in central BiH, about 60 kilometers northwest of Sarajevo.

This Bosnian town is best known for its medicinal springs, whose health benefits have been tried and tested since the end of the 19th century. The springs have helped the area around Fojnica remain a major center for health tourism in BiH for more than a century.

There is a Franciscan monastery at the entrance to Fojnica which dates from the 14th century and its museum collection and library serve as a National Monument of BiH.

One of the most important documents housed in the library’s collection is the Ahdnama issued by Sultan Mehmed II “the Conqueror”. This was his written guarantee that Christians in BiH would enjoy the protection of personal and property rights.

The Ahdnama was issued on May 28, 1463, soon after the Ottomans had conquered the Bosnian kingdom, and is considered one of the oldest documents on human rights in the world.

Prokoško Jezero (a glacial lake), which is like something from a fairy tale, is near Fojnica, up on the Vranica Mountain plateau.
