Type: Gallery
The Gallery of Contemporary Arts Brodac opened in April 2016 and is located on the street of the same name, next to Vijećnica.
It is housed in the historic Beledija building, which served as the seat of city government until Vijećnica was built. It was later used as a court building and prison, a particularly infamous site during the fascist occupation of WWII. After the war, the prison was decommissioned and turned into an apartment building.
GSU Brodac was started by a group of young enthusiasts, led by Mak Hubjer, an artist and activist. Their aim was to create an exhibit space that is “independent of any form of unwanted political and social influence.”
A number of artists have already had their works exhibited here: Jusuf Hadžifejzović, Louis James, Pierre Courtin, Joaquin Luzoro....
