Construction on this sports complex got underway in 1947, as designed by the architects, Vaso Todorović and Anatolij Kirjakov. They envisioned Koševo as a “landscape stadium” that would fit in perfectly with the natural “amphitheater” that fills the Koševo Potok Valley on the northern periphery of the city center.
Koševo Stadium was completely renovated in preparation for the XIV Winter Olympic Games according to designs by the architects, Ludmil Alkalfić and Dušan Đapa. The opening ceremony for the Winter Olympics was held here on February 7, 1984.
The stadium was badly damaged during the last war and underwent another thorough reconstruction following the war.
This sports arena is named after Asim Ferhatović-Hase, a legendary player for FC Sarajevo – the city’s Premier League team which plays its home games here.
(Koševo) Asim Ferhatović-Hase Olympic Stadium’s main football field has an athletic track and two auxiliary fields, one of which has artificial turf.
The stadium currently has a seating capacity of 36,500.
