Things to do in Sarajevo from January 3 to 9

The holiday euphoria hasn’t stopped since the big countdown to 2019, and here we recommend things to do in our city from January 3 to 9.

2019/01/01

The Carlsberg Holiday Pub, which first opened in Hastahana Park on December 5, 2018 and will remain open until January 13, 2019 as part of the Coca-Cola Sarajevo Holiday Market, will see daily afternoon performances by the Sarajevo Holiday Duo. The following will also have gigs in the evenings (Jan. 3-9): Goran Dizdarević Grk & Sarajevo Gang, Ina & Open Mind, Skala Tamburitza Orchestra, Electric Five, Mirza & PanduriLight Tamburitza Ensemble and Epic Band.

The Coca-Cola Sarajevo Holiday Market offers many other interesting activities for the entire family, so be sure to stop by the Jaffa Skating Rink, which will still be open to visitors long after the market ends (until Feb. 3). During the winter school break, the Jaffa Skating Rink will turn into the free Jaffa Skating School, so be sure to head out to take your first steps on ice.

On Thursday, January 3, basketball lovers can catch a game when Spars Sarajevo and Lovćen Cetinje face off during the 14th round of the ABBA League at the Novo Sarajevo Sports Hall.

On Friday, January 4, take it easy with a view of the city at Sunnyland while the kids enjoy the free Film Night for Children.

On Saturday, January 5, you have a chance to dance during DJ Feđa Knajdl’s show at Babin Do on Olympic Mountain Bjelašnica. This event will be held as part of the Telemach Winterhana Market & Fun Zone, a cultural-sports manifestation that will run throughout January and February.

On Bjelašnica, there aren’t just winter sports, but you also have an opportunity to follow performances by popular DJs, hip-hop artists, pop-rock bands, as well as enjoy the food and souvenirs that will be on offer.

With the approach of Christmas, the most joyful Orthodox Christian holiday, the traditional Prosvjeta Christmas concert will be held on Saturday, January 5, at the National Theater. This event is organized by the Serbian religious and cultural association of the same name.

A lazy Sunday (Jan. 6) is the perfect day for a walk to the National Museum of BiH, Sarajevo’s largest museum, where you can view the ethnology department’s newest exhibit, In the Mirror. Housing more than 4 million items, it’s possible to spend hours in the museum.

Sarajevo Jazz Guerilla and Nikolina Vujić promise to provide a terrific show at Jazzbina on Monday, January 7.

For all the art lovers out there, we recommend Selver Begić’s exhibit, Viruses, Planets and Empty Cardboard Boxes, which will be on display at Java Gallery until the end of January.
