Top events in Sarajevo from February 21 to 27

Whether you like spending time attending musicals, winter sporting events, concerts or exhibitions, Sarajevo has tons of interesting events to offer, and here we’ve made a selection of the best ones taking place from February 21 to 27.

A poster exhibit entitled, Confrontation, will open at the Novi Hram (New Temple) Gallery on February 21 as part of the Sarajevska Zima Festival, and will remain on display until March 4.

From February 21 to 25, Bjelašnica will host the second edition of the Born2Ski Alpine Skiing Festival. This four-day event will gather members of the business community, ski clubs, as well as everyone who loves sports and good parties.

Classical music aficionados can enjoy a concert by the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra on Thursday, February 21, at the National Theater, under the direction of Toshio Yanagisawa from Japan.

That same evening, the popular Romanian stand-up comedian, Dragoš Christian, will have you in stitches at Monument.

On Friday, February 22, the Historical Museum of BiH will host an exhibit of artwork and sketches by the creative duo Anima, which comprises academically trained graphic artists, Mirza Rahmanović and Denis Haračić.

This Friday, there will be a multimedia promotion at the National Theater for the book, film and exhibit entitled, Suada and Muše: The Footballer and Ballerina, which tells the story of prima ballerina Suada Kavazović-Mušović and athlete Džemaludin Mušović. This multimedia event is the work of Velija Hasanbegović, Indira Kučuk Sorguč and Dinko Omeragić.

On February 22, the famous Serbian actor, Nikola Đuričko, will present his autobiographical stand-up show, Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Džoni, But Were Afraid to Ask, at Dom Mladih. That same night, you have a chance to watch the Serbian comedy, The Incorrigible Henpecked Husband, at the nearby Coloseum Club.

This Friday, the most sought-after BiH DJ duo, After Affair, which comprises DJs Bonjasky (Bojan Jović) & Ivan Z (Ivan Zrno), will be playing at Silver & Smoke.

Finish off the workweek with some hot dancing at Mash, which holds its own salsa evening every Friday, and if you’re in the mood for rock music after that, visit Underground, where the band, ProRocks, performs.

The Red Bull Home Run, a massive downhill event for skiers and snowboarders, will be held on Bjelašnica on Saturday, February 23. The start time is set for 4:00 p.m., and the race will be followed by an after party thrown as part of the Winterhana Market & Fun Zone.

Be sure to reserve Saturday evening for a visit to Dom Mladih, where Sarajevo actor Branko “Đuro” Đurić will have you laughing along during his popular comedy, Đurologija.

Musical fans will enjoy the gala concert, Broadway-West End Musicals of the ‘80s, which will be held Saturday at the Bosnian Cultural Center. This event will see Sarajevo’s iMTM (Institute for Music, Theater and Multimedia) perform the most beautiful songs from Grease, Footloose, Dirty Dancing, Annie and Flashdance.

If you’re in the mood for rock and blues tunes, be sure to visit YU Caffe in Ilidža, where the Sarajevo band, Foxy Head, will play on Saturday.

The band, Mary Jane's Little Drum, will be performing that same night at Celtic Pub, and Lijepi Brener will keep you entertained at Mr. & Mrs. Cue.

If you like Amy Winehouse’s music, don’t miss Amy’s House, a tribute band to Amy Winehouse, at Coloseum Club on Saturday.

Be sure to reserve Monday, February 25 for Jazzbina and a performance by Sarajevo Jazz Guerilla, the popular Sarajevo group that brings the world’s biggest jazz hits to the city’s music scene.

On Tuesday, February 26, you can see the comic opera, The Barber of Seville, at the National Theater, with choreography by Gioachino Rossini.

And on Wednesday, February 27, enjoy the gorgeous panoramic view from S One Sky Lounge during a performance by Sarajevo artist Ina Hamzić.
